Campaign blocks city's Great Northern demo order
Judge Tracey Bannister acts to prevent demo to allow appeal to proceed.
The Campaign for Greater Buffalo is fighting like tigers to save the Great Northern grain elevator. We have just received a temporary restraining order from Judge Tracey Bannister that blocks any demolition or destruction at the Great Northern while we prepare for a January 24th hearing on a preliminary injunction pending our appeal on the City's emergency demolition order.
Hats off to Campaign boardmembers and attorneys Richard Berger and Richard Lippes, who have been putting in very long hours over the past month to get us this far.
We have to post a bond of $100,000 by January 21. Douglas Jemal has agreed to be guarantor of our bond. We thank Mr. Jemal for his support.
We will save the Great Northern! Much remains to be done, but this is an important step.

Campaign blocks city's Great Northern demo order
In the late 1980s, then-owner Pillsbury requested a permit to raze the structure. This was opposed, and culminated in the Great Northern's designation as a city of Buffalo landmark. In 1996 and 2003 demolition of the building complex was again requested by subsequent and current owner Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). Both times it was denied.[5] The building remains one of the earliest surviving elevators in the Buffalo River District.
